Ein handlicher Handscanner spektroskopiert u. a. Lebensmittel und was man sonst noch so interessant findet… und gibt z. B. die darin enthaltenen Zusätze preis.
SCiO liest die chemische Zusammensetzung von Materie aus. Ein optischre Sensor dient als Werkzeug. Die Bedienung zeigt sich recht intuitiv, quasi per Knopfdruck. Die Analyse ist schnell gemacht, und man spart sich damit den Einsatz eines Labors. Neben Lebensmitteln kann man so ziemlich alles scannen, was einer so einfällt: Pflanzen, Medikamente, Öl, Sprit, Kunststoff, Holz, … Wenn das mal nicht zum Rumspielen einlädt ;-)
SCiO ist laut Hersteller ein learning device. Mit jedem Scan kann das Ding mehr „über die Welt um uns“ lernen. [Anm. d. Red.: Da ist es schlauer, als so mancher Mitmensch *gg*]
Das Entwicklungsteam von SCiO hat dem Gerät schon ein bisschen was beigebracht, z. B. kann es anzeigen, wieviel Fett in einem Salatdressing ist, wieviel Zucker in einer Frucht oder wie pur ein Öl ist.
Für wen SCiO gedacht ist
SCiO ist für alle gedacht, die schnell Infos über die Dinge um sie herum haben möchten, mit denen sie (täglich) zu tun haben. Es ist natürlich auch für Datensammlerinnen und Datensammler interessant.
Was kann SCiO schon, wenn man es zum ersten Mal in der Hand hält?
Zum Beispiel kann man (das übersetze ich jetzt mal nicht, muss ja noch andere Artikel fertig bekommen):

Man kann Vorhandenes anpassen: „Definitely! Using our Application Development Kit (ADK) you can develop your app at the complexity level of your choice. The ADK has two use-modes: basic and advanced, from which you can switch back and forth. You can easily define the sample properties that interest you and collect the necessary spectral database using your PC or smartphone. Analysis is automatic but you can tweak it as much as you want.“
Auch ganz neue Apps sind möglich:
„Those of you who want to develop mobile apps, as part of our ADK we will provide open APIs. The APIs will make it possible for you to better use the SCiO developers’ kit, and help other’s use SCiO in new and awesome ways.
You’ll also have access to a native mobile application plugin as well as device communication methods over the BLE during the sampling phase and you’ll get a web service on the server side to support analysis, classification, estimation and other algorithmic methods to work with CP databases and other cloud flows.“
Muss man eine Expertin in Spektroskopie sein?
„No! Much of our ADK efforts are aimed towards providing you with a tool which does not require previous knowledge in spectroscopy. The development of an app involves teaching SCiO to identify particular substances and attributes that you have defined. In order to gain a deeper appreciation for potential SCiO application, we do recommend exploring what fields and industries spectroscopy is currently used for. These include agriculture, pharma, law enforcement, recycling and many more.“
Und wenn man auch nichts oder wenig von Chemie oder Algorithmen versteht…?
